JNVST is an entrance test for candidates who are seeking admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. JNVST is conducted zone-wise or region-wise.

Selection of applicants will be made on the basis of their marks obtained in the written entrance exam in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST).

The Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test for Class 6 is a national-level offline entrance examination conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to offer free residential education to eligible students. Candidates must be studying in Class 5 in a recognized school within their residing district and meet the specified age criteria to qualify for application. The test consists of eighty multiple-choice questions carrying a total of one hundred marks, designed to be completed within a two-hour duration using a blue or black ballpoint pen on an OMR sheet. Assessment is divided across three main sections: Mental Ability along with basic environmental science elements, Arithmetic, and Language Comprehension, with no negative marking applied for incorrect answers. At least seventy-five percent of the total available seats in every district are strictly reserved for students applying from rural backgrounds. Candidates are allowed only one attempt in their lifetime, and the entire registration process is conducted online free of cost through the official portal.

Age Criteria:

Birth Date Window: The candidate must be born between May 1, 2015, and July 31, 2017 (both dates inclusive).

No age relaxation is permitted for any category candidate (SC/ST/OBC/Divyang).

Educational:

1. A candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V for the entire academic session 2026–27 in a Government/Government-aided/recognized school, or must be enrolled in the ‘B’ Certificate competency course of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in the same district where admission is being sought.

2. The schools from which students have obtained the ‘B’ Certificate from NIOS must be accredited by NIOS. The candidate must successfully complete Class V during the session 2026–27. Actual admission to Class VI for the session 2027–28 will be subject to these conditions.

3. A candidate seeking admission to Class VI must have studied and passed Classes III, IV, and V from a Government / Government-aided / recognized school, completing one full academic session in each class.

4. No candidate is eligible to appear for the selection test a second time under any circumstances. The information filled by the candidate in the application form will be verified, and if the candidate is found to be a repeater, he/she will not be permitted to appear for the selection test.
